To Be or Not To Be

Does your mother always push you to be someone whom you do not like? Does your mother listen to you when you say some opinions about her want?


You see, my mother always convince me that I should get the course nursing and accounting when I finish my studies in Secondary Level. Nursing, for me, needs a hard-work because you need to study hard everyday to pass all the tests and exams given to you by your proctor, adviser or your teacher in a particular subject. I can say this things because every morning when I ride a jeepney with a nurse in it, I can notice that she is always holding a book and studies his or her lessons seriously and the books which they are reading are very thick or if not books, long bondpaper which contains hundreds of words. I sometimes imagine myself as a nurse studying those lessons while the jeepney is now on a bumpy road. Isn't it true that it will make your head dizzy even if you are just imagining? And when I look at their dresses, I am the one feeling hung up. Nursing also needs self-discipline and patience. Patience because you need to focus on your studies and forget about your friends. Patient to wait for the results or doing some practical exams which need skills to work on to [esp. if you don't have this skills].


Accounting, on the other hand, I really do not exactly know why my mother see this work a good thing. I think it gives more money or payment to the person working, or maybe it is suitable for me. In accountancy, like nursing, you need to be patient. When your an accountant or a person who wants accountancy, you should be great in Mathematics. Why? It is because accountancy needs a person who knows how to subtract, to add, to multiply, and to divide numbers. You also need to know how to get the gross sales or price, net sales or price, discount, profit, total sales, loans or salary and the interest. As stated above, you need to have presence of mind. You should never be nervous when holding a big money like pieces of P1000 or more.


Each of this course has a reason why my mother want me to take it. For nursing, as what my mother told me, I need to do the same as what my Aunt did. She told me that if I study nursing, I may able to go abroad and may work there. She mentioned the word ABROAD. She wants me to work there because she wants me to have a better fortune. Working in the Philippines is NOT that good for me because the salary here is low unless if you'll work OUTSIDE the Philippines, you will have a salary doubled or more. She also said her sister, Clavel S. Reyes, has now her own house there in New Jersey. She was once a nurse here in the Philippines. And for accounting, like what I have stated above, I'll have a good salary.


Now, I don't really know if I'll take neither of the two because I think I don't like both. But I do not want my mother will be disappointed. It is now up to Him. He will decide what will my fortune be. And I know that my parents will understand if I will not choose either Accountancy or Nursing. If you will ask me what I'll take, I think I'll take....... I don't know' Maybe someday I'll figure it out.
